Motherhood: A Time Of Sacrifice

Being a first time mom is the most exciting event to ever happen in a woman's life. It is perhaps, the ultimate fulfillment for any woman. To be able to create life... to carry a baby in your womb for nine months --- both difficult and wonderful milestones that every woman should experience. Awaiting in anticipation for the moment of the baby's arrival creates such an indescribable feeling of joy, completeness, and excitement. To hold that bundle of joy in your own arms for the very first time compensates for all the discomfort and personal sacrifice that a woman makes during pregnancy.

Being a parent or first time mom has long been considered the epitome of self-sacrifice. Indeed, going through the usual “morning sickness” that consists of nausea and vomiting is really something to reckon with. Having a newborn at home quite literally disrupts all routines and practices of a couple. Adjustments are made from the time meals are cooked, to the time we get off from work, to the amount of time we can sleep at night. All of a sudden, a couple's life revolves around that little baby in the crib. Still, all the hardships and challenges of motherhood are accepted with open arms. In fact, it is a time to celebrate the real meaning of being a woman.

But just like everything else in life, the first-time mom is sure to encounter challenges that require new skills and a lot of emotional stability. One of the first issues that women grapple with is the surprise of becoming pregnant.

Signs of Pregnancy

First-time moms usually do not know they are pregnant until after major symptoms appear or only after they use a pregnancy test kit. So, here are a few pointers on how to know if a woman is pregnant:

1. Tender nipples- Your breasts, particularly the nipples becomes tender around three weeks after conception. It may also feel swollen. You may also notice that the areola has become darker and has increased in diameter. The color change in the areola is associated with the body's adjustments in preparation for breastfeeding.

2. Slight spotting – A light pink spotting can occur at the time when the embryo attaches to the lining of the uterus. Cramping can also happen and this is when the uterus assumes its mid-position and becomes supported by the pelvis during the second trimester.

3. Extreme fatigue – A very common symptom among pregnant women is fatigue or feeling exhausted. A pregnant woman undergoes hormonal changes that also cause a bit of sluggishness.

4. Fainting- There are times you would feel dizzy or feel that you are about to faint. This happens when the growing uterus compresses major arteries in your legs which causes your blood pressure to drop, therefore, making you feel light-headed.

5. Nausea and vomiting- This is more popularly known as “morning sickness.” This may come as early as a week into the pregnancy. Others experience nausea in the afternoon or evenings while for some, it can be throughout the day.

6. Frequent urination – When the fetus is growing, it causes the uterus to swell and it puts pressure on your bladder, which also makes you urinate more often.

7. Constipation – You would feel this in the early part of your pregnancy when your hormones slows down bowel functions.

8. Irritability – Sometimes, you would feel a combination of these symptoms in just one day and because of your raging hormones --- you tend to feel irritable. This symptom is best managed by getting rest and plenty of sleep, and by maintaining a healthy diet.

Things Pregnant Women Should do...

A pregnant woman should also make sure that she follows the following pregnancy tips:

l Regular Medical Exams – Monitoring the progress of your pregnancy is a must to avoid any complications or problems. The doctor can recommend what medicines or supplements you should take; what to avoid food to avoid; and other dietary prescriptions that you should follow such as the regular consumption of milk that contains high amounts of folic acid and pre-natal vitamins.

l Check your immunity – Pregnant women should avoid contracting diseases like chicken pox and measles --- which have potential harmful effects on your pregnancy. It is important to be fully vaccinated prior to getting pregnant.

l Eating right – Pregnant women should eat plenty of high protein foods which are essential to the healthy development of the baby. Pregnant women should be aware of the the appropriate amounts of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and fat that should be consumed daily.

l Avoid negative emotions - Emotions like anger should be avoided because even the baby is affected by the mood of the mother.

l Inform your doctor on your family history- If you have any pre-existing conditions, it is best to inform the doctor so that appropriate action can be taken to adjust procedures and medicines that may be prescribed during your pregnancy.

Things Pregnant Women Should Not Do...

l You should not smoke- You should not smoke or be around people who smoke. Smoking is hazardous to the health of the mother and the baby. Direct or second-hand smoke can result in spontaneous abortion, underweight babies, and even infantile deaths.

l You should not drink alcohol- Like smoking, alcohol consumption during pregnancy poses a very serious health risk to the baby in the womb.

l You should not take prescription drugs or over-thecounter medicines- There are certain drugs which are not safe to take when you are pregnant. The approval of your doctor must be sought before using any kind of drug or medication. The use of prohibited drugs can also cause severe birth defects.

l You should not drink coffee – Consumption of drinks with caffeine increases the baby's risk of having diabetes.

l You should avoid stress - Stress should be avoided by pregnant women because emotional instability has adverse effects on the health and physical growth of a baby.

l You should avoid exposing your self to pesticides, paint thinner, and household cleaning products. These chemicals can have harmful effects to your newborn.

Parenthood is learning process that entails studying how to care for your baby even before it is born into the world. It takes a lot of involvement by both the new mother and new father --- who equally share the responsibility of ensuring that their baby is healthy and free from risks that could impede its growth and development. Expectant fathers should be more patient and prepared to engage in a more active role in caring for the baby. The last few weeks of pregnancy can very exhausting and might cause some anxieties for the first time mom. But a caring husband can do wonders for his expectant wife by being more understanding and by doing all he can to make his wife comfortable and fully relaxed. Before you know it, the waiting game would be over. By taking the time and effort to prepare for the baby's arrival, a new mom and new dad can become fully prepared for the day that they'll finally meet their little bundle of joy.

Want To Know How To Make The Most Of Motherhood?

What does it take to walk it out as a Mother? It takes love, patience and most of all it takes prayer. We can't achieve great things in life without prayer. Daily intimacy with God will set the path for our day. Be determined you will succeed at everything you set your hands to as a Mother. As a Mother we have to present our self to our children with no threat. No threat in a sense that they feel comfortable to talk with us on anything that comes their way. We must not only make our self available for them, but with their friends that they spend time with. Hey – they may gripe, they may complain, but they will get over it.

These are days that are imperative in our training. Proverbs 22:16. Sex and drugs are at an alarming rate with our young people and we must be available in every way we can. Influence and peer pressure can be a big distraction for our children. It is normal for our children to be influenced. However, what type of influence is crucial. We must pray for friends and families to be placed with our children that will share our same goals, faith and dreams in life.

One thing I have learned with young people, make sure you don't close in on them too fast. That will turn them off in a heart beat. I have learned this and still learning with my girls. If they aren't ready to talk, we have to bag up to a degree and give them their space. When it is time to roll in on them, they will come around. Approaching young people sometimes is almost like walking on a land mine. Be-ware!!!!

I can't express this more "Be Available". If something doesn't agree with your spirit and it feels uncomfortable about your child or situation. Let it be known. We are help to help our children and not hurt them. I share this with my girls often. Why do you think girls are searching for love through sex, drugs and many relationships? Because no one spent quality time with them. Because situations came upon them at an age and time that caused great harm to them. Why are our young guys trying to sleep with as many young girls as they can? Because they don't have a role model that share what a quality family life should be. Nor have they been taught how a real man treats a lady. They have had no one implement a true relationship. It is definitely not about having sex with whomever you can.

A lot of our young girl and guys are in more danger because lots of parents don't have the guts to say "No". No you can't go to this party tonight – No you are not ready to date yet – No you can't sleep over Jane's house tonight "No you can't wear that skirt clear up your behind. I share with my girls "what you are willing to show – you are willing to share". When you dress sleazy – you attract sleazy. I tell them you are much better than that. Jeremiah 29:11 after all, more than likely, they are going to have to walk it out as a Mother one day, and we must prepare them for this journey in a positive way.

Be the Ideal Mother

A child is carried in a mother's womb for 9 months before he/she is blessed with the light of the world. To every child his/her mother is the most perfect creature on earth, the loveliest and the most infallible.

It is not al all easy to be a role model mother. There are no hard and fast written rules to be the ideal mother or the ideal parent. The most important tip would be to understand the responsibility of instilling the best values in her child's mind and bring the child up to be a confident, happy and good human being.

An ideal mother is one who inculcates the best of family values in her children. She also has tons of patience to put up with the childish tantrums and makes the child feel satisfied and happy without being over-indulgent. She is usually a mixture of the toughness of granite and softness of blossoms, the sharpness of razor and the coolness of mountain streams, the calmness of still water and the purity of untrodden snow. She is the child's best friend. She is there for the child through every thick and thin. In one word, she is the light of her child's life. All mothers should aspire to be the role model mother to your child.

Motherhood Myth

Marriage, motherhood, maternal instinct, mothering, maternal responses are all associated very closely with the entity called mother. The way a mother feels for her child is instinctive, with a number of hormonal and psychological factors involved. There are certain well-defined and clear-cut ways in which mothers react to their responsibility of child bearing, child rearing and home making.

Most women go through the phase of experiencing the fantasies of the motherhood myth and many other myths associated with it, for example, myth of "instant bonding" and of "ideal mother." This fantasy actually prepares the mother in her to undergo the entire painfully pleasurable experience of mothering a child.

The myths of instant bonding and ideal mother make the whole concept of motherhood seem so rosy, stimulating, meaningful and enriching. They actually encourage every woman to cherish the feeling of being a mother to a child and also the desire of mothering the child in the most perfect manner possible

Questions To See If You Are Ready For A Baby

Are you a woman? If you are, have you been thinking about motherhood? If you have, you may be wondering whether or not you are ready to be a parent. While parenthood is occasionally unexpected, a large number of women and their partners plan and prepare for it. If that is the approach that you would like to take, there are a number of important factors or issues that you should first take into consideration. Your summary here

Perhaps, the most important factor to take into consideration is healthcare. When pregnant, you will need to schedule regular prenatal exams. Towards the end of your pregnancy, these exams may be as common as once or twice a week. For that reason, healthcare should be taken into consideration. Do you have health insurance? If you do, does your health insurance cover pregnancy and prenatal care? If it does not or if you are uninsured, you may end up paying for the cost of your pregnancy alone.

In keeping the cost of having a child, it is also important to examine the costs after your baby is born. It is no secret that raising children is expensive. How are you currently managing, financially, now? If you are having difficultly making ends meet, you may be unable to afford the cost of a child. Of course, there are financial programs out there to assist, but you shouldn't rely too heavily on them. If you would like to have a child, it is advised that you take steps to financially prepare for doing so. These steps may involve increasing your work hours or eliminating unnecessary purchases.

Another factor that needs to be examined is your current living situation. Do you own your own home or do you rent an apartment? Regardless of whether you are a homeowner or a renter, do you have enough space for a child? If you do not, it may be a good idea to rethink your current living situation. Although many mothers like to keep their newborns in the same room with them at night, there will come a point in time where your child will need their own room. If you would like to buy a larger home or rent a larger apartment, you may want to think about doing so before you decide to become pregnant, as it may save you a considerable amount of stress.

Another issue that needs to be discussed is your partner or spouse's feelings on having a new child. Although it is more than possible for you to be a single mother, by way of a sperm donor, many women make the decision to have a child with a man that they love. Despite being more than possible to raise a child as a single parent, it is important that you seek assistance from the father. That is why the decision to have a child is one that you and your partner should make together. If you are married or if you have been with your partner for a long period of time, there is a good chance that they will be just as excited with having a baby as you are. If, at this point in time, you realize that you both have difficult goals and aspirations in life, the issue needs to be dealt with as soon as possible.

When deciding if you are ready to become a mother, the above mentioned issues are all ones that should be taken into consideration. As a reminder, many women have children unexpectedly, but many take the time to plan and prepare for pregnancy and childbirth. If you would like to thoroughly examine your decision before getting pregnant, it is advised that you do so. You can research pregnancy and raising a newborn baby by speaking with your healthcare professional and other parents or by buying a collecting of birthing and parenting books, as well as by using the internet to your advantage.

About Motherhood

When we think of a mother, what kind of a picture we get in our mind? A compassionate lady who will sacrifice all her comforts and will work ceaselessly in the home without expecting any monetary reward, only to take care of her children. Is this correct? Motherhood means sacrifice and pain from day one of conception. But this pain and sacrifice brings forward a beautiful feeling in a woman after she finds that her children are happy and healthy. That is the only reward she desires from her children. And that is motherhood.

This is true not only for humans but all mothers of the animal kingdom. A tigress will attack you and kill you if you dare to approach her cubs. Every animal mother teaches her young ones the art of living in their world. Every mother is ready to go to any length to save her young ones. A woman begins dreaming about her child soon after conception. Many expectant mothers talk to the yet to be born child. They feel totally comfortable doing that. They plan for the future of the kid, food, education, clothing, shelter everything. From the poorest to the richest mothers, we find that a sense of protecting her progeny is the most common trait.

For a mother, the child is her extension. This is not so for the fathers. But mothers treat the child as same as themselves. Why? Nature gives this love to a mother so that the specie continues. Mothers are special. In few studies it has been found that infants stop crying when they listen to the recorded sounds of their mothers womb. They were protected there and when they come out in the world, they are surprised with the difference. The sounds of womb tell them that things have still not changed so much and they feel comforted. That is one of the reasons why touch works wonders. The more a mother touches her children physically, the more loved they feel. They get the reassurance of the protection of the mother.

A child should always feel indebted to his/her mother because nobody else including the father sacrifices so much as the mother to bring us up. Mother is compassion and for a young kid, mother is God.

Child of My Heart

From the moment that I knew about you,
I loved you.
For months I carried you under my heart.
Watching you grow,
And waiting for the day when I would finally meet you.

When they placed you in my arms,
I loved you even more.
I held you snugly to my breast and stared into your eyes with total amazement.
Then as you grew and went through life's many stages,
My amazement grew to awe.
You are a part of me and yet you are not.
You are who you are.
And all that you have been, all that you are, all that you will be,
Makes me love you even more.
You are my child,
My legacy,
Through you I will live forever.
For as you grow and as your children and their children will grow,
You will each carry on a part of me.
Though I love you not for the immortality that you give me,
But for the child of my heart that you are.

Talking a friend and letting it out can really help in keeping your feeling in check. Being able to talk about yourself and your kids with someone who wont judge, can definitely serve as free therapy.

Step 3. Take 2 hrs out for your self every 3 days.

Just being able to go out alone for a walk, a facial or a massage can be soooooooooooo rejuvenating, I say go for it ladies we deserve it.

Step 4. Light up candles around the house where your kids can't reach.

I find that candles really relax me after a long day and can set the mood for the night, your hubby might just get lucky.

Step 5. Start a book and finish it.

Start a book that can keep you awake and finish it no matter how long it takes. You might be surprised how soothing a book can be.

Motherhood: Making Choices About Working

A good deal of research has been done on the options for working and childcare which can help you make an informed decision, but even with all the knowledge in the world, you still have to thread your way through a messy bunch of tradeoffs.
For instance, studies have found that mothers who work are healthier than mothers who do not.1 Sounds simple, right? But behind that headline, there's a more complex truth. Research findings are almost always about the averages of groups.2 Yet you are a person, not an average! If you read a statement like "mothers who work are healthier than those who do not," you might conclude, reasonably enough, that you will be healthier if you return to work. But the statement really means only that "the average mother who works is healthier than the average mother who does not." In fact, many mothers who do not work are healthier than many mothers who do. The crux is always individual: What's right for you and your family in your particular situation. Let's look at the details that have to be considered to come up with the answer.

The Benefits of Working

The many rewards of working start with the enjoyment and fulfillment you experience from the work itself. There could be the feeling that you are using an important capacity within yourself, like a technical or managerial talent. Working offers the satisfaction of accomplishing a specific ambition (e.g., to be a teacher), and some lines of work give you the sense that you are making a contribution to society beyond your family. Certain jobs or careers also have prestige or social status. Last and usually not least, there's the additional money a job brings. As Ann Crittenden has shown in her book The Price of Motherhood, our nation's laws and policies place economic burdens and risks on all mothers, but they weigh most heavily on those who stay home with their children.

There are also pluses for the children of a working mother. Some of the physical or psychological health benefits she enjoys from working will spill over onto them - like her feeling more fulfilled, or less cranky from being cooped up with a child all day. A second paycheck means more money to buy them things, like better food and health care, or enriching experiences. Childcare carries the benefit of time with other kids and caregivers, and some breathing room from mom.3 Then there are future benefits to a child if his mom works when he's little: by not stepping off the career track - especially the fastest ones - she will probably have a larger salary when he's older.

Joy Of Motherhood

What is the joy of Motherhood? Where is it. Many people have been asking themselves this question especially women who have not been able to conceive and have a baby on their own. These women have missed the biggest important opportunity in their life's that of experiencing the joy in motherhood. There is no cause for worry that you have been unable to conceive and go through the whole process of pregnancy and delivery etc.

The real joy of motherhood comes only when you see the child and go through the numerous experiences of being a mother to your child as he or she grows up. It is a never ending process. The joy of being a mother is there till her death.

Women have the natural instinct of motherhood even if they are unable to have their own biological children. Motherhood is an experience.

In the early days just after the birth of the baby, the mother may go into fits of depression as the toll of having gone through a difficult and painful delivery or a caesarian section to have her baby make makes her actually feel so drained of energy.

The constant crying of the baby and the many sleepless nights she has to spend to care for the child will fail to give any joy to the mother. She may sometimes wonder if she did the right thing in her life to have had this baby.

But once the baby opens its eyes wide and gives a wonderful big smile on looking at the face of its mother then all the pain and sleepless nights that she endured will simple vanish in a second. She would have forgotten what all she went through to have this baby. A sense of satisfaction of having achieved something will give her tremendous joy and a feeling of pride.

Soon as the baby starts making noises and is more a wake and starts to play there is no better joy in motherhood. Babies just bring about a whole world of happiness with their innocence. She begins to enjoy her motherhood. This process of joy in motherhood is experienced by her through out the period of the growth of her child. The joy of motherhood does not stop with only giving birth to a bay and in the first few years of the child but it lasts till the very end of the mother's life as the mother finds joy in everything that her child does.

Happiness Of Motherhood

It is not an easy job being a mother all the time with that motherly instinct. Mothers are also human beings who have a lot of hard work to do. When something goes wrong and the effects of drudgery and hard work of motherhood makes you worried that you feel that you do not seem to have the mothering instinct feel all the time. It is okay. There is no cause for worry. It is just that studies have found that the more stressed out you are, your rain becomes more emotional and the feeling of affection also decreases proportionately.

You may have wondered how some mothers seems to always love being a mother and they seem to enjoy their role very much.

When you spend a lot of time with someone you sometimes get the feeling that you don't seem t like that person anymore but that does not mean that you do not love them anymore. It is just that you are simply tired and certainly need a break from your routine work and the people around you.

Reports are saying that many people who are childless are having plenty of happiness. But does this mean those women who have children are really not that happy? They feel guilty that they are unable to cope with motherhood and start to doubt their abilities of being a mother and this feeling dampens their happiness and they begin to feel that they do not like to be a mother anymore.

It is the children who contribute to happiness in motherhood but the thing is these mothers are really tired and bored of their routine and are unable to take the stress which lies in being a mother full time.

Happiness lies in motherhood. And it is certainly hard to believe that childless women are happier. No amount of money you earn or the number of gadgets that you may own or all the comforts you may have in this modern world can fill that vacuum called happiness that only children can fill. It is children who make motherhood and fill their lives with sunshine and happiness.

Researchers are still trying to unravel the mystery of whether children are the real cause of happiness in Motherhood.

Motherhood gives a new meaning to a woman's life and she feels happiness in nurturing her children and swells in pride to see them grow and develop as adults.
